Childhood Vision Warning Signs

Published 25 Feb 2026 · Reviewed by the clinical team, Sentra Clinic & Hospital

Warning signs include sitting very close to screens, squinting, head tilting, covering one eye, frequent rubbing, poor attention to near tasks and any visible eye turn. A white pupil reflex in photographs needs urgent review.

Even without signs, a baseline eye examination by age 3–4 and before school entry is recommended. Cycloplegic (dilated) refraction gives the true prescription in children.

Lazy eye (amblyopia) and squint respond best during the developmental window — do not wait for your child to complain, because they usually will not.
